Senator Kennedy von ... Bewußtlos im Krankenhaus - Vgl. den Artikel »Kennedy
Claims Victory, And Then Shots Ring Out« der NYT vom 5.6.1968: »Senator
Robertf. Kennedy had just completed a statement claiming victory in the
California primary. Amid cheers and flashing V-for Victory signs from the
several hundred persons gathered in the Embassy Room of the Hotel Ambassador,
the Senator started to work his way off the podium [...].
Moments after the shots were fired, the New York Senator lay on the cement
floor of a kitchen corridor outside the ballroom of the Ambassador Hotel.
[...] He was described as breathing but not apparently conscious. [...] Mr.
Mankiewicz [ein Arzt] said that the Senator had been shot twice in the head
- once in the forehead and once near the right ear. [...] The Rev. Thomas
Peacha said he had administered the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church
in the hospital emergency room [...].
Senator Kennedy lay on the floor, blood running from his back. His right eye
was open but the other was partly closed as his wife, Ethel, kneeled at his side.
His shirt was pulled open and a rosary could be seen on his chest. [...] a voice
from the crowd shouted: Someone pray! At that, Mr. Kennedy took his
rosary beads and tightened his hand about them.«
