Die New York ... den Keiner will - Die Überschriften der NYT vom 1.4.1968
zu Präsident Johnsons Fernsehansprache: »Johnson Says He Won’t run; Halts
North Vietnam Raids; Bids Hanoi Join Peace Moves«. Die Zeitung kommentierte
die Rede in drei Artikeln, von denen Uwe Johnson zwei verwendet.
Unter der Überschrift »Decisions on War Reflect Appeal of Civilian
Aides« heißt es: »In his nationwide television address the President, speaking
with a touch of weariness and with tearfilled eyes, used the conciliatory language
of civilian advisers.« Das Folgende bezieht sich auf den Artikel »›I will
not Accept‹«: »[...] his deep instinct for political combat evidently gave way
to an even deeper determination not to be rejected at either the convention
or the ballot box [...] if his present ›de-escalation‹ offer meets a favorable response
from Hanoi, he could emerge as the President who brought peace to
Vietnam and whose reelection was mandatory to nail down the terms of that
peace [...]. It may already be too late for this move to be accepted by the
North Vietnamese and so the next move is theirs in the effort to start the
wheels in motion that will end this dreadful, cruel and ugly war - the war that

island in the Vlatava River in the heart of Prague, 3,000 men and women who
were imprisoned, tortured, and ostracized for not being Communists when
the Communists seized power in Czechoslovakia met today to mourn their

Richard Sorge - 4.10.1895-7.11.1944, wurde als Sohn einer Russin und eines Deutschen bei Baku geboren und wuchs in Berlin auf; Volkswirt, Journalist, seit 1920 für die KPD, seit 1925 für die Komintern in der Moskauer Zentrale tätig, seit 1929 im Auftrag des Geheimdienstes der sowj. Armee als Spion in China und später
in Tokio auf (seit 1933 getarnt als Ostasien-Korrespondent der »Frankfurter Zeitung«). Dank seiner guten Beziehungen zu dt. und japanischen Stellen erfuhr er vom bevorstehenden dt. Angriff auf die Sowjetunion sowie, daß Japan nicht die Sowjetunion, sondern die USA angreifen werde. Seine Warnungen (er teilte schon im Mai 1941 das Datum für den Angriff am 22. Juni 1941 mit) wurden von Stalin nicht beachtet. Am 16.10.1941 in Japan verhaftet, 1944 zum Tode verurteilt und in Tokio hingerichtet.

ist unerhört und unglaublich. Basiert auf dem Bohnenlied in Fastnachtsspielen
des 15. Jh.s, in dem Torheiten mit dem Refrain »nu gang mir aus den Bohnen«
geschildert werden. Es hieß, wenn die Bohnen blühten, gäbe es besonders
