54, 13-23 Gestern abend um ... 14 Jahre alt - Vgl. den Artikel »Brooklyn Killing Ignites Outburst« der NYT vom 5.9.1967: »Angry Negroes hurled bottles and stones at the police last night after a detective shot and killed a 14-year-old boy who has allegedly participated in a mugging of an elderly man on a Brooklyn street.
Both the detective and the slain boy, who was identified as Richard Ross of 205 Buffalo Avenue, were Negroes. [...]
For almost four hours, a six-block stretch of Ralph Avenue was sealed to traffic, but the police lifted their barricades at 10:15 P.M. as the tension appeared to subside. [...]
However, shortly after 11 P.M., 15 Molotov cocktails were hurled into the street at Ralph Avenue and Prospect Place. [...] One liquor store was looted by teen-agers who hurled stones through its plate glass windows, seized several bottles and fled.
Display windows of three stores at Pitkin Avenue near Howard Avenue were smashed but there was no report of looting.
The trouble began at about 6:30 P.M. when four policemen patrolling in an unmarked car came upon four or five Negro youths allegedly attacking a 73-year-old man. [...]

Politiker, 1926-57 Mitglied des Politbüros, 1930-41 Vorsitzender des Rats der Volkskommissare (Ministerpräsident), 1939-49 und 1953-56 Außenminister, enger Mitarbeiter Stalins, maßgeblich an den Konferenzen von Jalta und Potsdam beteiligt, 1957 aller Ämter enthoben, 1962 aus der KPdSU ausgeschlossen.

55, 3 f. Fünfstrichsymbol - Das Logo der Bank ist wahrscheinlich von dem der Chemical Bank inspiriert: ein Rechteck, das von vier diagonalen Strichen in fünf Streifen unterteilt wird. Auch für die Geschichte der Bank, in der Gesine arbeitet, hat sich Johnson teilweise an der Chemical Bank orientiert; daß das Symbol nicht auf diese Bank anspielt, geht aus den Tageskapiteln vom 23.2.1968 (772, 21-23) und 25.4.1968 (1056, 33f.) hervor; s. 1057, 2f.; 1566, 12; 1734, 14.
