Heute berichtet die ... den Leser auszufüllen - Turner Catledge
(17.3.1901-27.4.1983), bisher Chefredakteur und für das Sonntagsressort zuständig,
wurde zum Vizepräsidenten und Direktor der NYT Company ernannt, sein
bisheriger Posten wurde von James Reston übernommen. James Barrett
(»Scotty«) Reston (3.11.1909-6.12.1995) war seit 1939 für die NYT tätig
und Gewinner von zwei Pulitzer-Preisen. Vgl. den Artikel »The Times Promotes
Top Editors« der NYT vom 2.5.1968: »Mr. Catledge has said that during
his tenure The New York Times has become ›lighter in appearance and
more inviting to read‹ while retaining these aims: ›To be the accurate, objective
newspaper of record. To serve adult needs by being complete in our coverage.
