The sources [...] said the credit suggestion was made to discourage the Czechoslovaks from seeking financial aid from West Germany. [...]
The Czechoslovaks have stated that they need a credit in hard currency and that the most likely source is the West Germans. They have added that the likely price for such aid is diplomatic recognition of the Bonn Government. [...]
Czechoslovak sources said the credit topic was raised more in the form of an ultimatum than a suggestion since it was coupled with attacks on West Germany by the East Germans and others«; s.K. 909, 2-7.
